What did you do in the garden today?

Morning.

The garden is def winding down. I pulled all the onions & started drying them yesterday.

I topped all my tomato plants hoping they will put the energy into ripening what they have instead of making more, there were lots of flowers.

The watermelon vines are yellowing, the cuke vines are dying (but still giving me cukes).

Carrots didnt do too well, I wont waste the space next year.

Picked a bunch more maters to ripen inside, will pick more today before the remnants of that hurricane hit.

Girls are mad at me cuz I wont let them out into the big run, I have to leave shortly.

Good morning all. Yes the garden is definitely winding down. I'm kind of glad anyway. I picked some more tomatoes along with a very few green beans, a small butternut squash and a tiny cucumber all of 3 inches long. I think my produce is taking this whole "Wee Farm" thing too serious, and kicking out tiny veggies. LOL! The new feeders I ordered for the chickens arrived and OMG! They are nice. Now there's no excuse for dumping the food dispenser over. These are small covered bins that attached to the side of the coop. There should be much less waste now. That along with finally getting the 3 gallon waterer leveled should make my life less stressful. Off course now the chickens will have to get even more creative to entertain themselves. After all the produce is finished in the garden I plan on letting them all have their way in there to help with the clean up. I'm trying to hold off on another canning session as long as possible - tomorrow or Sunday so I can finally finish painting the walls in my sunroom. I'm hoping I can finish that up today and put the room back together. I did spray all my fruit trees yesterday. Yay! My friend explained to me how to prune them properly so as soon as their leaves fall off I know what to cut. Have a great day everyone.

We don't prune fruit trees until the very end of January.

Good morning gardeners. Dorian started brushing by the NE coast late last night. It rained most of the night. We're still getting bands of wind, but nothing major. The temps are really cool and it might make it to 70F today. I picked some more tomatoes and green beans today. I'm making pasta e fagioli soup for tonight's supper. I do an all vegetarian version. I can use up my carrots & green beans plus added tomatoes and homegrown herbs and onions. I'll have to check with my friend @WthrLady and @penny1960 and see what he thinks about pruning in January. It may be difficult to reach the trees in January as that's typically when we get our heaviest snowfall and frigid temps around here. I need to can some more tomatoes today. The fun never ends. Have a great day everyone.

Afternoon.

Running electric to the coop today & drawing up the plans to fence in a huge area for the girls. Part goes up in a couple weeks, the rest next spring probably.

Pulled some carrots, cukes & maters. Picked a watermelon yesterday & gave some to the girls. Hilarious to watch them fight & steal the seeds.

Have a great afternoon all.

You prune fruit trees when they are fully dormant, but before the sap starts flowing. February would work too. You just can't wait too long into February.

Have 12 pounds of fresh puree on the stove with seasonings simmering on the stove, making ketchup.

Thundering outside all day.

Hens are in eating the scraps of tomatoes, happy as fat hens.

Alpacas are inside, doing whatever it is they do to be happy. They sit and think a lot. I wonder what about.

Have 30 pillow cases to sew up. Finished cleaning the workshop yesterday. The all out war with the mice continues.

Can't belive tomatoes are still going strong. I am up to 30 gallons of puree and puree products at 12 pounds per 6 qts.

Almost all berry plants need replaced next year. grumble.
