Here's a pic of our work in progress. My main concern is ventilation during the winter. We live in the Pacific Northwest so it gets very wet and fairly cold, though I've read on here they can handle temps much colder than ours. The roost sits a bit above the bottom of the window, but they crouch down enough when they sit to not have air blowing directly onto them from the triangle vents (hopefully it stays that way as they get bigger). I believe Tyler is also making a flap for the front vent similar to the triangular ones on the sides. The window in front can open also for breeze in the summer time. If my math is correct, the triangle vents as well as the rectangular vent above the window alone should provide a little over 4 sq feet of vent space. We thought about adding ventilation on the back wall for cross wind, but that would be right at the level of their roosting bar. Is that ok as long as there is a flap to prevent direct wind? Depending on how many roos we wind up with we'll probably have 4-5 chickens. 12 sq ft inside coop and 24 sq ft of run space. We'll likely free range them some as well. The nesting box is attached to the back of the coop which you can't see here.

Ground clearance will be 2 inches for the wheels. We do have some hardware cloth sticking below the frame a bit to discourage predators. We live in the city with good fencing all around, so dogs are not an issue... except mine but she's only outside long enough to potty. She's a couch potato. ;) Since we are free ranging also, I figure the run itself doesn't have to be super secure- as long as the coop is. Thoughts? A skirt or landscaping bricks seems like such a pain.

It's looking great! The best thing about closeable ventilation is that you can close it when needed...lol. Ideally, in winter at least, the ventilation would be well above the birds' heads. Or a coop would be deep enough that where the vent. is doesn't matter because there's plenty of dead air space where the roosts are. As long as cold air can't blow on the birds, all is good. I can't really tell what you case is, as I can't see the roosts.

If you're good about cleaning droppings daily, then even if you have to shut off most of your ventilation during a cold spell, your birds won't suffer. Obviously, the more space per bird you have makes this even more true...

If you're getting 4-5 birds you will definitely need to range your birds daily once they're half grown, as 24 sq. feet is really only enough run space for 2 birds, 3 maybe if they're smallish and of a very calm breed. What seems like ample space when chicks are the size of mice can become cramped very quickly when those chickens are the size of housecats...

I have a similar-sized coop (3x4) and similar vents (triangle on sides and rectangle on front). I've only wintered my 4 hens one year (in Pennsylvania), but the vents seemed to be the right size. I think you're in good shape.

Plus, your coop is awfully cute

. Happy chicken-keeping!

Thanks for the input! ;) I was going to post more pics but my camera is on the fritz. I took measurements though, the roost is 10" from the bottom of the triangle vent, and 18" from the floor (without shavings)

We have 7 chickens currently, 7-11 weeks old. I believe at least 3 are Roos & we'll downsize before they are full grown. The ones we'll keep are 2 cuckoo marans, a black copper marans, and a silkie. All are pretty docile except for Tito, and she's nothing compared to the Barred Rock roo. He'll be headed to freezer camp soon, he was my favorite but he's turned into such a bully!

They're about 10 weeks old here, the roost is 10 inches below the lowest vent, and 18 inches from the floor (before shavings). They're standing here, but when they sit the vent is over their heads. we've got 4 sq feet of ventilation, not including the window that we'll only open during the hot summer.

The purple cage below has some Marans we'll be integrating in the next week or so. We've got some Roos that will be gone when they start crowing. When they're full adult size we'll have 4 chickens in 12 sq ft of space inside the coop. A bit of a squeeze and cheating a little, but they are Marans and silkies... and so far they're pretty docile. We are free ranging as well.

I think you are fine on space, especially since they are all the same generation. Very beautiful. I would not worry about predators as long as they are locked in the coop at night. It would take a very determined predator to dig up sod.
