The broody's finally can hatch some eggs -- not golf balls!

Houdinni, a splash dutch. I moved her so we could see two eggs.
Daisy, a Bearded Buff Laced Polish, sitting on her 5 eggs.

We JUST got the eggs today, there are: 4 light brown eggs, 3 banties (could be frizzle or silkie!), 1 blue egg, 1 white egg, and 1 brown egg. These are going to be mixed, since she had a bunch of different chickens with a bunch of different roosters. One of the bantam eggs are looking sort of big-- PLEASE NO GUINEAS!


Haha, July 22nd is their hatching day. Yayayayayayayayayayayay!

Good luck to the broody ladies. I would recommend moving the food and water away from the nests. If the hens do not have to leave their nests in order to eat, they are likely to defecate in the nest and ruin the eggs.
 
Oh, thanks for that info! I was thinking they took way to long eating, so I didn't want the eggs to die. Thanks!
 
It's actually important for the hens to leave the nest, eat and drink, take a dust bath and exercise a little. They can actually spend a considerable period of time off the nest without endangering the eggs.
