I like to let my silkies free range whenever possible, but my pen has several young silkies in it now, so I'm afraid to let them all out together, as I can't keep an eye on every one of them. I was thinking of buying a short fence, to add to the pen (going from the door of the pen to the corner under the shade tree), so they can get out in the evenings, and I wouldn't have to worry about them so much.

Anyway, I'm wondering what would be a nice fence to do this with. I haven't looked at Lowes or Tractor Supply yet. It needs to be covered enough they can't squeeze out, and it doesn't have to be that tall. I'm also only doing a small area for now, and maybe I can add on later if it works well.

Any suggestions? Links with pictures/prices?

Thanks.

I use half inch hardware cloth on mine. It is durable and strong enough to keep predators out for the most part. And for that size they cant squeeze out either. I have gotten it at tsc and menards and lowes. Just always check to see who is cheapest. Not sure what the prices are. And you can get those posts there too to hold it up. My idea is that I always build it to last. If I dont get to rebuild or such it is strong enough to last for a while until I get to it. For silkies I just use the 24 or 30 inch stuff but I cant get in there either. I always put fencing on top too. Hope this helps.

There is plastic hardware cloth that doesn't scratch you so badly. That would work if it is within a predator proof area and you are just protecting your silkies from the big girls.

Yes, the area I'm talking about is fairly safe for just a little ranging, and they would only be out a couple hours in the evening while I'm out doing gardening. I normally let them simply free range, but with the younger silkies, I don't want them roaming while I'm busy. So I'm thinking a decorative 2 ft. tall+ fence.

Here's the area I'm referring too - grassy part under the shade tree. Want to clean it up, and add the fence from the door to the corner side.
