ok i posted pics of our marans rooster a while back and most said he was mixed with most likely wheaten. i have hatched several chicks from him and most were black when hatched (the one cockerel i have now has way to much red like his dad) but then one just hatched out about 10 mins ago and looks like this (don't mind the 2 bantams in the back). does this look like it's a wheaten color? i will post another once the chick is dried off more. i do know this does means our black coppers are mixed. so with that does anyone have some nice dark pure marans eggs for sale and if so can you please send pics of what the eggs look like and your stock thank you. (this one hatched out of a nice dark egg). i keep hatching out odd chicks that look nothing like they are supposed to :(

(french variety with feathers on shanks)

here's the chick after it dried off.

i will be adding pics of the parents (3 hens and a rooster) as soon as i can and the pic of one of the babies i still have from hatching and i do have another marans egg waiting to hatch out and will post pics of that one after it hatches. i'm not selling due to a few problems on the rooster and the hens (mainly with the combs and legs)

the cockerel has so many different colors idk what to think anymore :/
the yellow chicks you hatch are homzygous wheaten(two copies of eWh/eWh) this means at least one of your hens carry heterozygous wheaten(ER/eWh) so that means you have at least two BCM that are not pure, I see your boy has lots of red on his chest and wing triangle, this can only means it has some type of columbian restrictor on him(Co or Db in heterozygous form)... another issue is that your boy has white shanks, and BCM should have dark shanks, when one see a bird with white shanks one should stay away from that bird because it could be a cross and not pure for the sex linked id+/id+ gene that makes dark shanks...

look at this roo breast and shanks, this is how one should look like

my moms convinced he is a pure fbcm no matter what i show her and what i hatch out of the eggs :( even the judges at the parish fair (4-h) said it was a mix. she got the eggs those 4 came from off of ebay. i have only gotten eggs off of here and would like to get her the right type of fbcm instead of these "poor" ones, although two of them lay a nice dark brown egg while one is laying a coated egg that looks to be pink to white.

do you know if marans come in bantam form? i would like some but i only do bantams.
