This coop isn't finished completely yet, still needs to be painted and has a couple of little things that need finishing (like repairing the broken automatic door and putting a pemanent barrier between the roosting and brooding areas. But here are some pics so far.

This addition was in response to a couple of hawk attacks on my baby chicks even while running w/ the adults. The hawk isn't big enough to take on the adults so we just needed a place the babies could be safe from hawks and house cats.

Sorry some of the words in the pics are so small, they didn't look that small when I did it. The only bought items for the coop were the items to make the automatic doors, screws, roofing paper, and wire, everything else was pallets or materials from a condemned house. The design came after the materials. We gathered what we could then came up w/ something that would work for the chicken needs (ventilation) and what we had. They have been in it through this evil hot summer and so far it has been great. It will look much nicer when the tarps are gone and the paint is on.

Love the use of recycled materials and the ventillation! And how you incorporated the brooder areas (both inside and out) gives me some great ideas. What breed is Oreo? He is really gorgreous.

I love the brooder design and placement inside the other area with the roosts over it. That is genius. Nice use of recycled stuff. Where did you find parts for the automatic doors?

I can only give you very basic info on the door, that is Gary's area, my eyes just glaze over when he starts talking about it and I hear the "Charlie Brown" teacher voice talking.

It is a car antenea and motor, transformer, timer, and dusk to dawn sensor. The metal door part is a piece of metal from lowes.
