Hey guys,

I was collecting eggs like any other day in the coop when a bit of chicken poop caught my eye. It's watery part was moving and I saw little, tiny worms in the poop. They were round maybe a clear-whiteish color. They weren't like a majority of what the poop was but I was seriously worried. Are coop is ridiculously dirty because when we cleaned it last we didn't have enough money to get enough for a good, thick layer. I'm now scared that my other hens could get it and cause us to have to clean the whole coop out in Winter! Worse, I don't know good de-worming poultry products. I haven't seen signs of unhealthiness in my flock exept for the few with a pit of poop sticking to their butt feathers and occasional diareaha but nothing too serious that I've seen. I don't want other chickens to die so feel feel to say what you guys know. Oh and for supplies I can goto Walmart and Tractor Supply if that helps.

Sincerly,

Since you mentioned tiny, tapeworm segments came to mind. Take a look at this posting and picture, and see if it's what you're dealing with: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/421028/worms-in-feces-graphic-and-horrible-picture
If you keep reading, treatment is recommended, and Trac.Supply should carry the wormer mentioned. Let us know if you're pretty sure it's NOT tapeworm, and we'll try to help you pinpoint what you're dealing with...

I recommend that you purchase Valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer and dose all your chickens 1/2cc undiluted orally. Use a syringe without a needle. Then redose them again 10 days later. There's a 24 day withdrawal period from start to finish. Valbazen kills all known types of worms that chickens can get.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it's tapeworm segments. On the link you gave me the segments were more chunky looking and short. The worms were REALLY thin, moving, and maybe a clearish whiteish color but I can't be 100% on that either though because they were in the chicken poop and were covered when they started to try to come out.

It doesnt matter what type of worms they are, valbazen will kill them.

Okay, where can I get it and which birds should I treat? Are there any bad effects if a chicken that isn't infected gets it?

Treat all your birds. If one bird is infected, most likely the rest of them need to be wormed whether or not you see worms in poop or not.
Jefferslivestock.com carries valbazen. It has a 2-3 year expiration date. Here's a link:
