Roll Out Nest Box input/suggestion

Hi,
I am consider building a roll out nest box with storage underneath in case decide to take vacation for a week or two. My biggest concern is the egg will crack or turn into odd shape because the egg shells still soft. It is going to be a dual nest box and could hold about 40-60 eggs. I have a small box coop and only have about 14"-15" of space to work with. Any input would be appreciated.

I would think they will crack or break. The eggs are hard when laid so the only ones that will change shape when they hit are soft shelled eggs, and they will probably break. The designs I've seen don't involve a drop off point. If you do it this way, you could put a few layers of something soft on the bottom shelf, to pad the fall -- carpet scraps, rubbery shelf liner, etc. Personally, I wouldn't try it that way.

The space is something that I don't have. The other design require 24" and larger. I will have soft foam mat material underneath.
 
Hey! Did you end up building this model nesting box? I really like the idea for limited space... how did yours turn out??
