DOG ATTACK NECK EXPOSED! HELP! PICTURES!

Hello everyone. I joined this website to be able to post. I was googling help for dog bitten chickens! ANYWAY:
Today my new puppy and older dog (who has NEVER bothered my girls) attacked and nearly took the neck off one of our chickens!
I have included pictures. This attack happened very quickly as they were only left outside and unattended for about 15 minutes. I must note that she is foraging and walking around and even going to her drinking trough regularly. I cant seem to catch her to start ER procedures! Should I put her down or does anyone think this is a recoverable condition? Her neck is working just fine. NO BLEEDING. I am going on watching her walking all over the yard for about 4 hrs now with no signs of her being bothered. It is cold out and I want to do SOMETHING. I am just not sure if we should put her down or begin other saving measures. THIS IS A BAD LOOKING WOUND.

That is a green leaf that she wont let me get near enough to her to pull out of her wound. I have read that chickens can recover from a lot. I am unsure as to how much internal damage there is. First of all, the puppy was tiny.. Chihuahua mix. My other dog is a shitzhu. There is NO obvious dripping blood. It looks from the picture that she has been "cleaned" down to the bones of her neck! I'm crying and hysterical.I love my girls and never imagined this would happen so fast! We have had our chickens free range in the backyard with no incidents or problems for over 8 months until the puppy joined us last week. She has tried to chase them and this weekend I had to swat her hind end to keep her from doing that. Today was the worst day of all! She is getting rehomed tomorrow! My chicks come first!! HELP! PLEASE! ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! THANK YOU!

Nelda's open back wound- she can open and flap her wings without any problem.






Above picture is of Nelda's right side of neck.. as I got more feathers removed from the sides... there is some hanging threads of skin from her left side. Again- she will extend and retract her neck with no bleeding or any squaking on her part... she was eating worms from our hands while we cleaned her. No issues with her eyes or injury to her ears or comb or wattles. No broken bones.




Above picture is a second, closer look at Nelda's open back and trying to snap picture of her left side of neck. I got most of the mud of her with three warm saline water soaks.





We have cleaned wounds, cut away feathers, and applied neosporine (sp) ointment with pain relief in it. I gave her asprin in water. She ate worms from hubby's hands the entire time I was removing debris and cutting feathers. Acted like she didn't even notice I was doing all this to her???? She is comfortably sleeping now in a plastic tub/storage bin surrounded by food and water and a warm towel (changing it often from dryer to keep her warm)

ALSO_ I have read some of the other posts that most of your suggestions include hydrogen peroxide and antibiotics. IF anyone out there thinks this chicken is save worthy... she is a daily egger... then I will try but I also don't want to prolong and I know she is hurting! Even though she is not acting like she knows what's going on... she is STILL FORAGING!!!! Her neck moves around and bobs up and down as he walks just like always.. obviously nothing is broken... up under the feathers you can see clear to the vertebrae. when her head is down. It is almost time to get them in the roost. I have gone so far as to dig a very deep hole since I cant seem to catch her as she is maybe in shock? I'm just debating on whether I need to plan on using the hole or fighting with her for her life!!! BUT- I've never seen anyone's pictures this bad on the posts so far on this website.... I'm discouraged. I raised all of our sweet babies from little Easter eggs! Nelda is often the FIRST girl in my lap to come and say hello when I am outside in my lounge chair! I'm so sad! I only left them alone for 15 minutes!

Ok well first I think you should keep an eye on her and do you have a coop? If you do when they go up to roost and you close them up you should very careful herd her into the corner and very carefully and slowly pick her up If you dont have a coop then take the food and water and put it in an enclosed area but were they can see it and do the same then once you have her captured take her to a bathroom and wet a towel you are not fond of and very gently start to wipe the wound and dribble so water if she gets stressed or starts to flap her wings I suggest you stop for a few minutes you should then put her in a cage or something and keep checking the wound give her food and water and as so as you are able to take her to a bird vet that is someone who also does birds or specifically specializes in birds A.S.A.P

I absolutely believe she is save worthy

You may have to wait until she goes in to the roost this evening to treat her. That is a good sign that she is active. After most dog attacks they are in shock. You just need to do the basic first aid here--clean the wounds with weak betadine, Hibiclens and water, or just soap and water, assess the wounds for damage. Dry her as best you can, and apply antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin. Bring her inside in a dog crate to keep her warm and observe her tonight. Give her feed and water, and some chopped eggs. Tomorrow you may want to start her on an antibiotic to prevent infection. If your vet can prescribe one that would be good, but you can get a few at the feed store, mostly penicillin. Watch after a couple of days for any pus or foul smell, since infection needs to be stopped. Apply the Neosporin daily. She will need to be re-integrated gradually later on.

THANK YOU! I will put some clean dry hay together in a dog kennel. I am so new at this! Our poor Nelda! OMG! I wish I could get a better picture of her.. I will when I catch her in her coop... I think she knows she is wounded because she NEVER runs from me... in fact she always runs to me! She is one of my NOSY girls! LOL!

We are on a shoe-string budget everyday. I don't know if we can afford the vet bill.. I will call around tomorrow. Anyone who can offer advice on things that we might be "in store" for with treating this wound ourselves would be a really great friend to make right now... starting tonight! LOL! I have never given my girls their own eggs to eat.. but.. if you think that she will eat it.. I will boil one up and start that tonight. I buy their non-GMO food grains and pellets at the local feed store I will call them in the morning to see if they carry the BLUE KOTE I have read so much about on these emergency posts. Or should I be looking at RED KOTE at this point? I will take more pictures and post in a few hrs. I'm going outside to gather our Nelda up and try to make her comfortable somehow for this long night ahead.

definitely try Blue Kote a friend had a 4 week old chick mauled in the head by a huge rooster, she used this and Valerie is doing fine at 4 months now! I think honestly think your chicken will be fine after cleaning the wound and trying this out! good luck!

I've seen many injuries like this, and chickens heal remarkably fast with skin injuries!

First, I would clean the area (if you haven't done this already), and apply triple antibiotic ointment. Make sure it does not contain pain medication, as that is harmful to chickens. After that, I would put in her in a roomy carrier, in a semi dark, quiet room.
