So I thought I'd try a little experiment with some grocery store eggs. My local health food store sells fertile brown eggs and I put four in my "chickabator/mini dome incubator". Well, all four eggs developed to some degree. Egg 1 made it to day 5, egg two, around day 11, egg 3 pipped internally and died fully formed and egg 4 hatched! I am convinced that the poor hatch rate was due to the bad incubator, next time I'll use my RCOM 20 MAX. I checked out the website from the egg brand and I am pretty sure the hens are rhode island reds or red stars, but apparently the roosters are not. Chicken was born fluffy and yellow but with two or three tiny black patches of down. I dyed her pink at about two days old and you can see the contrast of the pink down and white feathers coming in. Also her feathers came in really scruffy, probably due to lack of nutrition of little chicken's mama rather than breed but that's just my guess.
What kind of chicken is she?
