Same here. I put pine shavings down and use a kitty litter scoop to scoop out all the poop under the roost in the mornings and add shavings if needed then I will change it when it starts to smell. Ive found that 5 minutes of work every morning helps me in the long run!
 
I use pine chips. I buy them at TS. I put them down on May 25th and haven't cleaned them once. I add about a half bale once a month. Right now there is probably 6-8 inches of chips on the floor. I will probably change them in the Spring, but only because I want to compost them. There is little to no odor in my coop. However, I do use a poop board, and that probably catches 50% of the coop poop (say that 10x fast!), which I clean once a week. Frequent cleaning of the coop is NOT necessary. The chickens don't care, nor does it harm them.; it just makes US feel good.

Actually, the ammonia buildup in a coop (from leaving too much poop in there for too long) CAN harm chickens. It makes them susceptible to respiratory disease. But you've already said you remove most of the poop via the poop board. I don't use a poop board, so that's why I have to change out the bedding more frequently. But I can usually get away with scooping out the poopy bedding directly beneath the roost pole, and leave the rest of it alone.
 
I use flax and pick clean several times a week.. we mainly have fluffy footed breeds, so i like clean.
