This is our first year owning chickens and boy, are we excited! We were given 4 youngsters last fall & was immediately hooked. Unfortunately, our dogs took down 2 of them so we were left with a hen & roo. So this spring we started building our flock. Now we have 11 chickens, 2 ducks & 3 guineas. They are an interesting variety of breeds. All are 2-3 months old now except the guineas which are only a week old. Tips are greatly appreciated although there are so many on here that I think everything has been read!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have an interesting flock! Sorry about the losses to the dogs.

Still trying to figure out a exes. We know that 6 are supposed to be girls. 1 is for sure a roo since I saw him attempting a crow. The rest are straight run. It's so much fun!

Welcome to BYC!

Sorry about your losses! That's always so hard!

Best wishes to you and your flock.

Welcome to BYC!

Great to see another New Mexican on board!! Down here in the south central mountains. There are quite a few of us here on BYC. What part of New Mexico are you from?

If you are wondering about the sexes of your birds, you can post pics in our What Gender section for more help...

Enjoy this great adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!

BO pullet, barred rock pair, leghorn pullet (we think),bantam silkie, polish & some sort of rock, a mixed hen, 3 Americauna pullets, a pretty rooster, 2 runner ducks & 3 baby guineas. Those are the birds! 5 dogs, 4 cats, a corn snake & a horse round out the group. Had a baby goat, but he got out into the horse pen & my mare trampled him. Poor guy. No more goats for us. :(
