I built 90% of this out of lumber I salvaged from very large shipping containers. It's town stories and both have a thermostat to control two of the three heat lamps in each compartment. I put one fixture in each for a regular white bulb to help with cleaning and checking on chicks. The 2x12 the screen doors latch to in pinned in so it can be removed for cleaning. Every light is on its own switch and the lights in the house are on a timer. I know I'll have some adjusting to do when I get chicks in them but I have indoor/outdoor wireless thermometers in both compartments so I can check the temps from the house. Also have a fan on the roof vent that's on a thermostat to help cool the house in the event the temp goes over 98 in there. Let me know what you think and please throw in your 2 cents if you see anything I could do to improve.

This looks great! Good job! My only suggestion is that I rather doubt you'll need 3 heat lamps for one pen. The entire brooder doesn't have to be heated. Only one area needs to be heated, with the rest just ambient temperature. This comes closer to simulating how they'd be with a mama hen, and makes them ready for outdoors more quickly.
 
That's a great point. I put two of the light on a thermostat for that reason. One is always on, the other two come on when the ambient temperature drops below a set point such as 75 degrees lets say. My thinking is this is that if the light that's always on fails the other two will keep them warm until I notice( alarm set point on outdoor thermometer) and replace the bulb. With this system I believe that the lights will reduce the likelihood of bunching or crowding under the light as the weather gets colder this winter.
 
Ooooh! I didn't catch that part in your description. That should work out great then, and alleviates worries about a light blowing during the night or something.

Thanks. I work in nuclear power so we always have a back up for the back up. I tried to implement the same thinking in my brooder. Alway like the peace of mind in knowing nothing can go wrong without something else covering for me until I can do something about it
