We recently moved to a new house and came to realize that a rather large, beautiful tree in the yard is actually supposed to be super toxic basically to all species (with a few exceptions). When one of my chickens started going for the red berries, I stopped her, looked it up, and was horrified...
We had a random tree sprout up in our yard a year ago and it’s grown fast! It’s growing right next to our chicken coop/run. We’re not positive on what it is but someone thinks it’s a Cherrychoke tree? I tried looking it up and maybe it’s an Amur Cherrychoke? I’ve attached pictures. I read that...
Hi there!
Anyone know if my chickens and ducks can safely eat Globe Chamomile / Stinknet (Oncosiphon pilulifer)?? I’m not sure if it’s related to Roman chamomile and other types that are ok for chickens...it’s in the Asterales order.
Any insights would be appreciated.
Thanks!!
I went to let my ducks out of their new coop this morning (made out of an old shed, with lino covering the bottom and up the walls a bit, sealed using a (EDIT: Acrylic sealant)) to see that the water in their waterer was a horrible opaque pinkish colour. I was dumbfounded... Until I noticed a...
I have a patch of these bushes in my yard and I would like to put my temporary fencing around them to give the girls shade and more protection from hawks... But I do not know if they are safe for the girls to be in. One or 2 sites say no, the rest yes... so confused.
We have 8 spoiled backyard hens in our medium-sized backyard. They free range daily. Our grass/weeds have been eaten by them and all green has disappeared. Just dirt now! We are going to fence off a small area to possibly put sod down for our kids’ play area. For the surrounding areas and bulk...
Hi!
I bought six pullets from TSC (our feed/equipment, greedy corporate, but convenient and seductive, store) about eight weeks ago. Two Wyandottes, two Marans, one Americauna and one Polish. They have lived alone, together, since. They were mostly in a brooder area inside, as our winter...
I have just purchased a Weeping Willow Tree and I'm deciding where to plant it. It provides great shade, but is there anything about it that is poisons to poultry? I can plant it away from my coops if necessary. However, if it is safe, I would consider using it to shade my chickens and ducks.
I spread treated wheat all over my yard to help get some grass growing. I covered it really well with straw. My chickens got out and "discovered" it. Now I'm worried because I've read about the chemicals that have been added to it. It contains dividend ( difenoconazole) and storcide II (...
I just recently got two baby goats and built them a fenced in area that has quite a few plants that I'm not sure what they are, my chickens and ducks will be able to go into the pen with them so I wanted to know if the plants are safe for all of them to eat. Pictures attached
I have read many posts on here about poisonous or otherwise prohibited foods, but other than one mention that citrus makes eggs taste funny, and another that it interferes with calcium absorption, I can't find any really definitive explanation of why citrus is bad. Is ANY citrus bad, or are...
