Hello again all!
My second batch of babies is about ready to be introduced to my other hens. They are all 5 weeks old and are all supposed to be pullets, however, I'm nervous about a couple as their combs are pretty large and are turning red (though it may be the breed). WHICH brings me to my...
We are downsizing our flock! We have some healthy and actively laying two year old Barred Rock and Rhode Island Red hens that we are looking to rehome in the next month or so. Anyone interested?
Last year we purchased a rooster that we thought was exceptionally beautiful and great attitude. He was the result of an Olive Egger rooster over a Rhode Island hen. He was thick in body, heavy feather with a short fat comb, thick legs.
We then bred the rooster to our two grey leghorns, two...
So one of my RIR pullets has been laying fairy eggs. First time finding this small of a chicken egg, even smaller than my bantam eggs.
They look really cute although not much of a meal :p. I wonder when do they stop, guessing its just a hiccup in egg production.
Heres a pic:
Hi all - five adorable handsome cochin bantam cockerels hatched May 23, 2022. No charge just want them "re-homed".
Pick up in Sandy Hook, CT. Parents were from McMurray hatchery and Dad is a buff cochin bantam. See pictures: A: mostly white/some black on rear/tail; B: mottled cream/grey blue...
Hi, trying to start new flock with sex-linked hybrids. Delawares x Rhode island reds. Several years ago, i read an article BYC about a breeder that was improving their deleware flock for both eggs and meat. Anyone know the name and info of this breeder. Any recommendations on excellent...
Hi all!
I have a 2-3 year old RIR (I think) lady that I found standing still in the run last Sunday (Jan 16). Her left leg is on the ground but she will not put any weight on it to walk so she is mostly laying down or standing in one spot when I let her out of the dog crate. She does not hold...
Hello everyone I will be raising dual purpose chickens for the next few months to have a small supply of eggs and meat and to sell locally
I will be posting pictures of progress
feel welcome to join this journey here are my naked neck and orpington mix chick's hatching
My Rhode Island Red hen is 2 days away from 14 weeks(at least i’m pretty sure, if not 14 then 15). I noticed she started trying out the nesting boxes a few days ago but hasn’t squatted yet. I’m thinking she might be an early layer possibly and if so should I start her on oyster shells or feed...
I’ll be honest this is my first personal flock, but I’ve help raise chickens plenty of times with my parents for eggs and meat. I wasn’t expecting any eggs or laying behaviors for at least a month or so but one of my Rhode Island Reds started sitting in the nesting boxes. Also her comb and...
I have 9 rhode island reds that are almost 4 weeks. I believe I have 6 pullets and 3 Roos. I know it’s early but what would you say? Just curious! Lol
chick #1
chicks #2 (I believe these both are Roos)
Chicks #3 (I believe these are all pullets)
chicks#4 (Roo to the left and pullet to the...
Hi! I wanted to start a thread for Bantam Breeders/Owners in New England. All Bantam Breeds welcome, even new odd/lovely crosses. What state are you from and what Bantam breed do you have?
Hi, I'm Annie. I'm a suburban hobby "farmer" in the South Coast region on Massachusetts, near Providence RI.
Q/A List:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got chickens about 10 years ago--a mixed flock of Easter Eggers, Australorps, and Naked Necks free...
