I have a chicken, hatched Feb 2023 who I noticed having issues with poop this morning.
Timeline:
0800 - let chickens out of coop; give 16% layer crumble; check water (was almost empty and spout slightly clogged with straw/leaves/dirt from chicken yard
0815 - waterer refilled, 6/6 chickens...
Good afternoon, I hope you are all well and I hope that you can help me with my issue. I recently picked up two hens from a licensed breeder, one had severe vent gleet, overgrown beaks and no idea how to be chickens which was awful to see. I am currently giving her Epsom salt baths up to 3 times...
History
My two year old ISA Brown hen, Candy, has had persistent vent gleet for a few months. Other than a messy bum and slightly thin egg shells, she was acting normal. I added acidified copper sulfate to her water, bathed her, and gave probiotics last month, but the vent gleet continued...
I've had this experience before with two other Buckeyes so I'm fearing the worst.
I found Speckles this morning sitting out on the floor of my garage that has flake down as if she was planning to lay.
Picked her up and put her in a nesting box. She didn't fuss.
I checked her vent she was...
I have an almost 5 year old hen with vent fleet and bumble foot. She constantly has gurgly sounds coming from her belly. I don’t think she’s laid an egg in four months or more. At night she pants (it’s like 60 degrees) and blinks super slowly (maybe she’s just tired) like she’s dying, but in the...
Hello! Noticed today that my 1.5 year old (what I believe to be) Rhode Island Red was lethargic today. When I took a closer look saw what looked like clear mucus was dangling from her vent area. At bed time I took a closer look, it was yellowish mucus and a stringy thing (pictured). What is it...
I have a Buckeye who’s in a hard molt. She has areas of no feathers, so I’ve been worried about her getting too cold. Temps down to 40 at night. I’ve been watching her, and I noticed she was looking a little lethargic. She did not join the flock for the scratch treat, and I pulled her inside to...
My buff Orpington laid this egg in the middle of the coop far from the nesting boxes. She also has a tiny bit of white stuff in the feathers near her vent but the vent itself looks normal. Should I be concerned?
I had to cull a hen that was struggling with vent gleet for quite a while. At least that’s what I thought.
I did Epsom salt baths, gave suppositories orally that are usually for female yeast infections. I tried creams and did a 3 day Epsom salt flush. Nothing worked.
Now I have another hen...
I have a young laying chicken that I rescued approximately 3 weeks ago and I cannot figure out what is going on with her bottom. She had clearly been on the run for a little while when we acquired her; missing feathers, very skinny, raw rear end. I have her quarantined in her own area, dewormed...
I have a 2.5 year old welsh harlequin who has had herself seperated for about a week now. She had the slightest limp and wasn't walking much, I looked her over and there was no bumble foot or heat in the joints, so I gave her a few days to just rest. Yesterday she walked out of the coop and was...
Can anyone help me figure out what's going on with my gal's butt? I soaked her. Her parts don't look red, and there was no abnormal discharge. However, her butt is a hot mess. I am not sure what direction to go in. I thought maybe Gleet, but not sure.
Hey all,
I got this lavender Orpington in December 2023, she’s around 1.5-2 years old and laying great.
When I got her, they said she moulted and never grew feathers back. I did watch another chicken peck at her neck but I got no peck spray and that stopped.
I’ve tried Epsom salt baths, I...
My girl has a prolapsed vent and some type of yellowish paste on her vent too. I’ve been giving her epsom salt baths everyday and keeping the vent clean the best I can. I’ve been trying to push it back in after cleaning once or twice a day but it keeps coming back out. Should I just leave it...
My 4 year old chicken Goldie was unable to walk so I brought her in to check her out. I don’t see any noticable injuries to her legs or feet. When she stands she immediately loses her balance and tips over.
I was watching her last night while she napped and it’s like her head wouldn’t stay...
Two issues occurring in our tiny flock right now and I've always found great advise on this sight so reaching out for more(?) advise/guidance.
Sour Crop: We are on day 3 of something going on with one of our 6 year old barred rock hens. She has been lethargic and throwing up. Based on...
Hello everybody! I have an Americana chicken and I think she might have vent gleet... She does isolate herself in the coop during the day but I take her out to be with everybody and eat lots of yummy grass but it just bothers me. I want to get it taken care of as soon as possible but I'm not so...
Brand new to chickens and hoping someone can help! I've looked on the forums here and can't seem to find this exact problem.
I've had 3 Buff Orpingtons since 9/10 (at 24 weeks old). One hen, Ginger, was the first to lay. She laid her first egg on 9/19 (about 25 weeks old) and laid at least 2-3...
I have a Silver Laced Wyandotte hen who is 21 weeks old. She laid 4 small eggs day after day then skipped a day, then laid a double yolk larger egg. She then skipped a day and went on to lay 3 more small eggs. The last egg she laid was 9/5/23 - so it has been 6 days.
I think something stress...
