My Name is Rose I have been a chicken&duck owner for about 7 months now. We live in Northern Michigan so currently it’s getting cold and snow. Currently I have 4 hens and two ducks. My hens are a Buff Brahma, Amerucana, Rhode Island Red, and a black sexlink. My ducks are male and female, the male is a mallard the female is a Roeun. I plan on getting a few more chickens around February. We have a large winter chicken run we built ourselves and coop that we got from farm and home that’s connected to the run. Our Rhode Island Red started laying eggs two weeks ago which has been super exciting for us but we aren’t forcing our chickens to lay in the cold just letting them do their thing! I love having chickens and ducks because it’s a great way to raise your kids to care for farm animals plus the eggs are a bonus! I’m hoping my chickens stay healthy through the winter I’m constantly checking on them so far they seem to be fine except our black sexlink and Brahma seem to hate the snow they prefer to stay in their coop. The ducks run around all day snow or rain haha. Thankfully our mallard hasn’t tried to mate with any of the females hens he’s only tried with his companion female duck. Anyways I’m starting to write a book so haha nice to meet you all!
