Whoa! That's a lot of chickens!

I'm getting ready to do a round of culling.

Those 7 boys are going into the freezer this weekend and I'm going to sort out the hens to keep only my best over the winter.
Oh that makes sense. I have never had any experience with culling chickens, what do you mean keeping your best over winter, if you don't mind me asking?

The ones who are worthy of breeding forward as part of the Australorp flock.

Also the best layers -- such as my California White and my French Cuckoo Marans -- and, possibly, the most promising non-Australorp broody.

Cool, I would like to be serious enough with my chickens some day to keep only the good layers and breeders. I'm not that serious yet. I get attached to all my chickens.
