Will the coated 1/2" X 1/2" hardware cloth work like a champ for the sides and bottoms of my above ground quail pens or would I be better off getting 1/4" X 1/4" hardware cloth?

Thanks,
Luke

1/2 x 1 for the floor (you can use 1/2 x 1/2 too but it doesn't allow all droppings to pass though) and 1 x 2 on the sides.

I haven't had any issues with 1/2"x1/2" uncoated on the floor. Nothing has stuck on the floor. I use it for all 6 sides so I don't have to worry about predation at all. If the coating is too thick you may have issues but I doubt it. 1/4" is too small unless they're young chicks.

only issue with 1x2 in outside situations is they will stick their heads through that size wire and if there are predators they may get their heads bit off (stupid cat...)

Yeah, that wouldn't work around here. That's why I stick with 1/2"x1/2" all around.
