My broody Australorp sat on 12 eggs and hatched 6 live chicks. They are SO adorable!!
We have a BO rooster and a mix of hens: 1 BO, 3 RIR, 5 Ameraucanas (4 white/tan ones had not been with my rooster but with an Ameraucana roo; one black/tan hen) and the one broody mom. I also have 10 White Robust hens (which we didn't try to hatch).

These chicks will be two weeks old tomorrow... Wondering if anyone can tell if any are pullets yet?
This is hatching day!

Day 1:
The little brown one is soooo cute! We thought he looked like a Hoot owl... so HOOT it is!

Day 2:
I think the 3 on the left are Ameraucana (Hoot would be mixed with my BO roo) and the other three appear to be RIR and BO mixed.

Day 5:
This one is obviously RIR/BO mix "Punkin"

Day 8:
They like being ON mom now, not under her! The one in the front shows some early tail feathers!
Does that mean pullet??

Two of the RIR/BO mix chicks:

Today at 2 weeks (technically tomorrow):
More feathers and some tail feathers coming in!

"Hoot" peeking out - and "Layla" right behind him/her..

Hoot's tail feathers:

Notice the different leg colors:
2 whiter ones and Hoot all have the Ameraucana grey/green leg coloring - the others are pink/yellow

All my babies at two weeks:
Only named a few so far - Crystal (White/tan one, in front bottom left), Hoot (darkest one), Layla (white one in back), Punkin (red head on the right)

Let me know if you have any early ways to tell if I have pullets - I realize I will have to wait quite a bit longer!!
too cute!
