1 chicken out of 4 survived an attack.

Oh my - I'm so sorry this happened. Dogs, no matter how well trained, are still just animals.
Even though ours are well behaved, I never let them out with the chickens just because, well, they're animals. I guess with the right guardian breeds, if trained from puppyhood and exposure, it works well. McChooky invested two years to train - I don't have the time or energy to train an adult dog to accept the chickens in that way so I just don't take the risk.
Best of luck to you whatever you decide to get. Your girl will be stressed for a while but as everyone else has suggested, lots of extra time and attention will help. Perhaps some soothing music, Mozart and Beethoven and other classical music would be good.

You really would only be risking one bird, this time of year, people are wishing to reduce their flocks, you could get one, and have a pair over the winter.

Don’t get a bird from an auction, who knows what they have been exposed to, but a hen raised up in backyard, probably would be safe.

Then get chicks in the spring.

Something to think about. When we were down to one, we replaced with two in case something happened to one, there would still be two so as not to have only one again. Did that make sense?

Just know, if you go with a started pullet that must be shipped, the shipping costs are exorbitant for larger birds so heads up on that.
