I've been wanting to get some Silkies for breeding since I fell in love with the one I have so I went to the sale barn Friday and found a pair to make a breeding trio. Then I got to thinking that they need their own house, so I rummaged around the wood shop and found some stuff to make one. I had to make a trip to Home Depot for $75 worth of supplies and here's what I came up with. It's 4'x4' and 4' tall in the center, 3' on the sides. Instead of making a hinged lid on the nesting box I made the whole back into a door for easy cleaning. I has peel and stick floor and 2 nest boxes. The roof is corrugated PVC to let light in. The area that they will be is completely shaded so it should be nice for them. With the wife and kids gone I was able to get it done this weekend.
