After our chicks first afternoon outdoor ( in a small pen) our 3- 1 month old and 3 2 week old chicks were united.
When we brought them back in to their respective brooders, one gal was getting pecked on the tail. She got separated to her own Brooder ( she cried over the separation and tried to escape ). She’s been eating start-n-grow medicated crumbles. Pic of sore on tail was bright pink. Gave her free choice “hydro -hen 3 in 1” in a separate bowl and wiped sore with neosporin. Next morning sore is darker red and appears to have more pustules later in the day. She eats and drinks both waters. She got a private afternoon walk in the sun and found a tiny worm to consume. What can I do for these gross tail sores?

I would mix up some sterile saline (2 tsp salt in 1 qt water that had been boiled then cooled to room temp) then put that in a clean spray bottle. Spritz the area thoroughly with the saline to cleanse it. Look carefully for any sign of maggots. If you find any, remove them with tweezers and dispose of them. Then wipe the area gently with the Neosporin. Be sure it is ORIGINAL Neosporin and does not have any pain-reliever in it. Then spray the area with Veterycin gel to seal it and keep it moist. Repeat morning and evening until it heals.
