Hi there,

Noticed that my 1 week old chick is bleeding from her vent. Cleaned her up, blow dried her and applied polysporin (it’s all I had on hand.)

She’s acting healthy- alert, active, eating and drinking. She’s pooping occasionally and when she does they are huge. No blood in the poop but her vent bleeds again and she pecks at it.

We’ve isolated her from the other 3 chicks who were pecking at the blood. Her vent appears swollen or prolapsed?

I’m new to all of this and would really appreciate suggestions and idea. Thank you!!

Give her something to soften her stools? Pumpkin is good, coconut oil helps, & molasses gets things moving quickly also.
Molasses would have to be watered down, & given through a dropper, if you go this route.

It looks swollen.

I had a badly constipated hen the other day. She would strain, & prolapse. Had help her get her innards back inside a few times. The next day I gave her a watered down molasses with a syringe. It worked. No more constipated hen. She had a messy bottom after that.
