I noticed today that one of my 1 week old chicks has a swollen bottom and what feels like at least 2 hard masses in that area. The chick acts completely fine, one of the more energetic ones even. I believe it is a cochin bantam frizzle

The feathers in the photos are messed up because I soaked her bottom in warm water since I wasn't sure if it was impaction.

Does anyone know what this is and what I can do to help? My heart is breaking for this sweet baby

It's hard to tell from pictures but if it's acting fine and energetic then it's unlikely to be life threatening. Could the hard lumps you're feeling be the pelvic bones? I've had swollen babies hatch when I ran my humidity too high so that could account for the swollen bottom?

I don't think it's the pelvic bones, I'll try to add some things to help explain what I mean
I got the chicks from tsc so as far as incubation, genetics, etc, no info really
I'm not experienced necessarily, I'm in my second year of chicken raising, but I've had 4 or 5 different sets of chicks I've raised and I've never seen or felt anything like this.

(The chicks are supposed to be same size in drawing so not to scale but this is the shape difference I'm seeing in the back end)

What ever happened with this chick? I have one that looks same with swollen lumpy abdomen but it acts completely healthy.

We talked over message but I wanted to provide the response here for anyone else looking 🙂 if you have updates on your chick also feel free to share on this thread

He ended up being completely fine, I noticed that light color chicks tend to have this look a little more but I could be wrong. Nothing really happened regarding the mass, he just grew up fine and didn't appear to have it anymore once he was grown so maybe he just had a large bottom? I don't know enough about chick anatomy but I hope your little baby ends up fine too.

Mine still has it, it’s huge & hangs down but she acts fine , runs around & eats, drinks normally so it obviously doesn’t bother her. Although it’s obvious & huge she is least of my worries since im dealing with coccidia in my younger chicks right now. Ugh 😑
