So my Khaki Campbells are 1 week old today and are loving playing in water and exploring outside. The person who ordered three of them came and got them last Saturday leaving me these two to love up. He lost one duckling right after getting it home. We are not sure why. It seemed fine when here. I am wondering if the shipping then having to drive in a car was just too much for it. Not sure just guessing.

I had a question though about the two I have left. One looks quite a bit bigger than the other and it's feet are bigger too. Does this mean that one is a male and one is a female? I would love to have a pair since we are already in love with them.

I will be listening to see what they sound like. I know with Muscovies they say that the males are larger. That's why I asked about the size wondering if it's the same for Khaki's as Muscovies.

Congrats on the new ducklings! Very pretty...

The only way to tell with Khaks is to vent sex them, but I would be very cautious of this and avoid doing it all together due to the risk of harming the ducklings. They are very sensitive.

At around 5-6 weeks you can usually tell by their voice. Sometimes it may take up to 7-8 weeks to get an accurate gauge on the ducks voice to tell if they are male or female.

Females, QUACK QUACK QUACK!

Males, deep low and raspy. Kind of like a bull frog.

When it comes time, take a video of them and upload it here so we can help you determine their sex.

* Oh by the way if they are ducks (females) they will yield you a lot of eggs! Khaks are amongst the top 2 egg layers just shy of the White Layers. Get ready!

Happy Ducks!

I am hoping I have a boy and a girl but not sure. One has a light colored ring around it's neck and the other is a bit darker. Not sure if that makes a difference. If they are a boy and girl. Will they be okay as a pair or will I need to add more ducks? I read somewhere that it wasn't a good idea to keep just one duck with the drake. Any truth behind that?

Unfortunately the person who ordered the original 3 decided they wanted the other 2 as well. I can understand why they are so amazingly friendly and loving. So for now I am duckless again. I found a lady who has Khakis about an hour and a half away and I am going to set up an appointment to go visit her farm and bring some home. So missing my duckies. :(
