She is a very large (standard) black Cochin hen with that beautiful greenish sheen to her feathers. She is very healthy & protective of our other girls. She goes broody often and has always had strong motherly instincts (she would sit on top of our other girls even when they were full grown to keep them warm in the winter!). She is setting on some eggs right now, and would be a wonderful addition to any calm flock or anyone that needs a broody and occasional layer. We need to sell her because we have no roosters or fertile eggs for her to hatch and she is distressing our layers by hogging the nest boxes. We feel she would be much happier elsewhere where she would be useful to hatch eggs and raise chicks, and we would like to make room for some new laying hens we are raising from chicks.
When she isn't broody she lays 2-3 eggs per week that are tinted brown medium eggs. She is used to living with a mix of standard and bantam hens. Pictures are from ~1 month ago.
She is also listed on craigslist and I reserve the right to cancel the auction on this site if she sells there first, but would prefer she went to a fellow BYC member. We purchased her from a member here on this site.
