So as the title say's I have a one year old barred rock that needs a new home. She's a great egg layer and I really like having her but unfortunately she picks on my buff orpington. I got into raising my hens last year and didn't know that barred rocks are known for bullying the more docile breeds. So I would rather find her a new home. Please let me know if your interested and the bird is yours.

What do you mean by picking on the other birds is she just highest in the pecking order and telling them to remember there place in line or actually fighting with the others

Hi! I live by the Russian River-is that near you? I have 2 sick birds right now so probably someone else will take her before we're clear over here. I'll check back here then. I sure could use a good layer-I end up running a chicken retirement home because we're vegetarians. I don't think I have a hen under 4.

I wanted to tell you about 2 products that helped when I had a really vicious Silver Lace Wyandotte. One is called Rooster Booster Peck-No-More Lotion. It's sticky & blackish. It disguises the pink & red skin so the bird doesn't keep attracting more peckers-as you know, once it gets to a certain stage they just won't leave her alone because they're attracted to the color red. It also has aloe & stuff to help with healing.

The other helpful thing was called Pecker Wrecker. It was kind of like those wild bird seed blocks you hang up except for chickens & much harder. It really keeps them busy & I guess provides an "appropriate pecking outlet." It kind of swings when they peck it, I guess to keep them interested & challenged.

I thought I'd mention these things in case you don't find a new home right away.

Good luck!

No, the Russian River is about 60 miles north of San Francisco, in Sonoma County. If you have ever done the wine tasting thing, I am about a half mile from Korbel Champagne. I've never heard of Russian River Meadows. Maybe there are 2 Russian Rivers--the Russians were all up & down the coast. Thanks for getting back to me--once everyone has been healthy for a week or 2 I'll check back here. If you haven't found her a home yet we could talk about meeting closer to where you are if it's a long distance. Good luck in the meanwhile. It's so upsetting when they're mean to each other, isn't it?

Ya but I am in McVeytown Pennsylvania so we're are pretty far away as to I can't pay for shipping though and can't drive more than half and hour to 45 minutes away if we were closer I would take her

How funny--2 SF Bay areas-ours stands for San Francisco! Well, good luck re-homing her. I'm sure someone will want a good layer. Starting at the bottom of the pecking order sounds like it would do her good! Have a great day!
