He is an Easter Egger, 1 year old, found him hiding in the yard one day in March, hiding under the riding lawnmower. He was very under weight (3 pounds) and had bad diarhea.

Brought him inside, he had bad yellowish, runny poo, so I tried worming him with Wazzine, then he sounded a little congested, so I gave him an antibiotic for two weeks in his water. Oh, and he had some mites, so I treated him for that and he appears mite free.

His color is good, comb nice and red, legs look normal.

All the time his appetite was good, although he became pickier and pickier, at one point only eating grits sprinkled over watermellon chunks. So after about 3 months of this, his poop is solid, but has a yellow streak in it and though he is eating good, he is only up to 4.5 pounds. He poops ALOT. When he was inside, I changed the paper lining 3 times a day!

He crowed for the first time the other day and I have him in a separate pen outside near the other birds, where he seems happier, cackling and he is trying to fly up on the 3' roost. I think he is improving but was concerned that he wasn't gaining weight faster.

Yesterday, as a last resort of sorts, I gave him the epson salt mixed with water to see if that would help.

I am finally going to take his poop in for a worm check, but in the meantime was just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

What breed is he? 4.5 lbs. might be the right weight. When you handle him is the keel bone prominent?
If a bird has a respiration issue, don't assume an antibiotic will cure it. There are more viral and fungal issues with birds than bacterial.

He is an Easter Egger. I believe I read the normal weight for a rooster is about 7 pounds. Just by feel, the hens I have are much heavier.

Yes, I would say the keel bone is prominant.

The reason I stopped the antibiotic was because the gurgling sound stopped. He never had a runny nose nor any type of discharge in his eyes or nose.

What else could I look for? I bought some of the VetRx which appeared to be for respiratory, but just wasn't sure it was what he needed.

I appreciate any advice.
