Murdoch's had pullet chicks and I went into a tizzy and picked up one from each box without looking too closely. I don't think I even breathed until I got home lol.

Below: this chick came from the mystery bin and the one I'm not really sure of the breed. Maybe a legbar or a welsummer cross?

Below: Americana chick. I didn't even notice the weird spelling at the time, but those puffy cheeks! Silver maybe?

Below: big blue. I thought Jerseys were black/white/splash and the colors aren't sex-linked, and that the breed doesn't have barring. So I don't understand how the hatchery is confident about this being a pullet without it being a cross?

I just love feathered feet. This one was called a Mountain Majesty I think.

#1 doesn't appear to have barring, so most likely a Welsumer or brown Leghorn.

#2 is an Easter egger. Some hatcheries use the term Americana or even Ameraucana for EEs, but that is not a color you'd find in purebred Ameraucana chicks. EEs are just as good, in my opinion.

#3 could be a blue Jersey Giant if that's how it was labelled. Hatcheries vent sex there chicks to determine gender, with something like a 90% success rate. Don't try it at home-- it requires a skilled professional.

#4 Probably a Midnight Majesty. These are a hybrid between barred rocks and black copper Marans. Male will have a white spot on the back of their heads, and females will not.

i've never had either of these breeds, i'm excited to watch them grow out.

i figured it was an EE! especially after i saw the spelling on the receipt. this is my favorite one in the batch, i love how it looks like a little owl.

ok that makes sense...i just didn't think that hatcheries spent time vent-sexing what I consider to be a "basic" chicken.

thank you for all of your input and wisdom!
