This is a 10 week old blue EE mix. I am not sure of specific background or what it may be mixed with. It confused me because at 5-6 weeks, I was sure it was a roo. It developed a reddish comb and was more upright than the simile aged chicks of different backgrounds. Now, it’s comb is more yellowish-pink and the only thing that still says roo to me is that curve in the tail. I thought at 10 weeks I would start to see saddle feathers and darkening on the shoulders.

At this point I would say pullet as well. BUT, my EE all are developing really late. My roo didn't show until 14 weeks I was sure he was a pullet.

Below is a pic of my blue Ameracauna at about 14 weeks. I've thought and been told by a few people on here she was a pullet but I'm about 90% sure "she" crowed today .

Here is a pic of her from this morning .

I've found with the EE it is pointless to try to sex them before 14-16 weeks .They just can change almost overnight. That's my experience at least.

Wait it out. I'm inclined to say hen as the feathers are very round in the saddle area, but it is early yet.

I've had plenty of hens with some tail funk, especially during juvenile feather growth and molts.

Comb is not worrisome, yet. They can pink with activity.

I'd hope for girl but wait it out in case of boy.

Appears to be a gorgeous pullet. My EEs are developing at different rates to a degree. 4 out of 7 total some are red and a few still pink-yellow.

It is a very pretty bird. I will actually keep him if it is a roo because I need another rooster (too many hens for just the one). I’ll have my fingers crossed if it is a roo he has the blue gene so if he crosses with the ameraucanas I can hatch more blue egg layers. Of course, I’m never disappointed if it is a pullet!

I thought the Ameraucana pullets has a very flat comb prior to maturity? At least the couple I have do, that is how I determined they were pullets. She is the one in front (compared to the EE in question behind her). She is also 10 weeks old.

I feel like I've had them all over the place. My EEs have all different comb types so it's hard to know for me .my two that are pullets have almost no comb. Estelle (blue in question) had almost nothing at all till around 10-12 weeks and then all the sudden it was there. Was very light red/peach for a couple weeks then this week it just started getting darker. 10 weeks is just too early to tell in my opinion

I've found that with the EE and Ameracauna, their temperment has been a better indicator than anything else at a young age. The chicks I called roos jokingly because of their behavior have ended up being roos.
