Hi there. I have 5 orpingtons that I purchased 10 weeks ago. I bought them straight run and since I am new to all of this, I was hoping someone might be able to tell me the sex of my chicks.:D

Chick 1
700

Chick 2
700

Chick 3 (middle chick)
700

Chick 4
700

Chick 5
700

All of their tail feathers look the same and no one had crowed for me yet.

Thank you for all of your help!

Well, I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but have been learning loads here at BYC. From your pics I'd say they are pullets due to their lack of a large comb...look like hens to me anyways!

Am I the only one who doesn't think they're Orpingtons

? Not buffs, anyway. They honestly look like a mix between a buff Orp and some Red bird.

I think mostly pullets. No 3 sure could be a little rooster, but I'd expect to see more comb at 8 weeks. Then again, as mentioned, Orps can be slow to mature.

They looked to be mixed to me too. Usually buffs are a lighter color and these all seem reddish, almost like red sex link color mixed with production reds.

Thank you. Everyone's combs (except number 3) look about the same size. His/her wattles seem a little more distinct. You're right, they are not buff orpingtons. The lady I purchased them from said they were English Orpingtons. I think they are all mutt orps. She said they were lemon cuckoo, buff, and I forget the other part.
