Two days ago our 17 guinea eggs hatched. The hen had made a nest in high grass in the yard where we don't mow; it was protected by a chain link fence on one side and a board was angled resting on the fence over the nest site.

Seventeen eggs, seventeen hatched. We caught fifteen, one was last seen wandering off, and one took a dive into the swimming pool. So, we had 100% hatch rate with guinea fowl who are really not that good at staying on the nest.

I consider that to be an unusual occurrence; how often can we expect to get 100% hatch rate?

Mine were great at hatching them and actually really good at raising them! Everyone says they are terrible moms, but my pair were excellent parents.

The first time my guinea set on her eggs she hatched 25 out of 30. 17 survived because the rest were eaten by my cat and 3 momma guinea stepped on. After that she had staggered hatches. Guineas are known to be bad mommas simply because they are clumsy. Clumsy, clumsy, clumsy. They will step on the keets and not know it. But aside from that they love their keets. They are the most caring mothers in my opinion but the most clumsy as well.
