Hello Everyone.
I have an 11 month old Buff Orpington named Tiny-tiniest of our flock of four BO hens.
Nine days ago she started having diarrhea, and same day other chickens pulled out her messy rear end fluff before I noticed what was happening.
She eats grass and her regular feed-layer crumble mixed with grower crumble for more protein. Dried mealworms as treats daily. Drinking fine. Ive given yogurt, added cider vinegar and chick electrolite powder to water. Bleached water containers to clean them also. I've gone out at night with flashlight to check birds and coop for mites or lice and see none. All 4 hens do shake their heads some.
I've bathed her every other day and Blu-Koted her rear. I've kept her separated during the day, put on roost with others at night and watch with coop cam shes not getting feathers picked.
I go out at first light to remove her and more fether picking has happened. I'm ordering Pinless Peepers today.
None of the other birds have any symptoms.
Their coop has sand bedding I scoop daily, nest box pine shavings, the run has a mix of bark and lots of grass clippings and a fenced grassy area they forage.
We've had a hot humid spell here in MI, at first I thought that was the cause of the runny poo.
Today there's blood in her poo. See pics.
I kept her in a cage in the house last night and there was a bloody egg this morn.
She's had normal poo inbetween the episodes of watery poo. I smeared poo on cardboard no signs of worms.
I found a vet an hour away and have an appt with her Friday morning(its now wednesday), but I know these things can go downhill quickly and its been over a week already. I will be keeping her totally separated from the other 3 hens now until I see she is better.
In the meantime, any thoughts? Coccidosis? worms? stress? Bacterial? Gleet? other? Shes acting fine today, skiddish from the feather pecking, but she was tired and droopy last week. She out in a fenced area of yard by herself right now, 20180530_113927.jpg 20180525_134653.jpg 20180525_130914.jpg 20180530_114742.jpg 20180530_113927.jpg 20180525_134653.jpg 20180525_130914.jpg 20180530_114742.jpg 20180530_113927.jpg 20180525_134653.jpg 20180525_130914.jpg 20180530_114742.jpg scratching and pecking.

1. It looks like a little bit of stomach/intestine lining that has come out, not so much "blood."

2. Her coloring (feathers, comb, waddles) look good.

3. A little blood on an egg once in awhile happens. It doesn't look like she's actively bleeding.

4. Have you treated the flock for coccidious or for worms recently?

5. It sounds like she is at the bottom of the pecking order. Can't do much about that.

6. How much space per bird inside the coop at night? In the run during the daytime? From the picture, it appears that the girls are cramped.

7. Does she act broody? Broody hens tend to have larger poops and sometimes explosive poops. (Yeah, I've been cleaning THOSE up lately!) Broody hens hold it in and release once a day.

8. During warm/hot weather, hens drink a lot more water and have more "watery" bowel movements.

9. Consider providing other treats that are high in protein, like scrambled eggs. Tail feather picking can be an indication of need for more protein in their diet. Maybe consider fermented feed.

If everything else is fine, I'd just keep an eye on her.

Your hen looks good.

You know she missed the towel, right, and you are going to have to clean that up? ;)

Thank you for your reassurance...really.
I've not treated for worms or coccidosis, not sure what to get at TSC to treat those, not sure if she has either of those, hoping to figure out what before I treat.
Shs not broody, though I do have one who is repeatedly, into the breaker pen she goes...so emo and grumpy-poor girl, just wants to be a mama-but no roosters here:(
We only have 4 hens total, our coop is 4x10 up and down-two floors of coop, plus lots of fenced netted outdoor space. one 5 ft roost bar.
Good thoughts, thanks again...though Im still worried about the blood.

I use Corid (powder) for coccidious and Wazine (liquid) for worms. Wazine is specific for roundworms.

You can use both at the same time in the water.

Don't add apple cider vinegar or vitamins or anything else to the water when you have Corid and/or Wazine.

Have you thought about getting fertilized eggs for her to sit on? The super broody hen you mentioned?

I don't have pictures, but please believe me when I say that was nothing compared to a hen pooping out alot of blood or all blood.

What it looks like in the picture is stomach/intestinal lining. It sometimes happens. All of the chickens I adopted from one source shed the lining in their poop. I first thought they were bleeding. Nope. It does look like blood. And sometimes there's a smidge of blood with the lining.

Coccidious can cause some bleeding, but doesn't always.

The blood on the egg - that sometimes happen. As long as it's not happening every time she lays an egg. Is it?

It's wonderful that you noticed a concern. Keep an eye the girls and have faith in the girls AND in yourself. :)
