Hi everyone! I got 8 Cochins in late April and this one has been the only toss up. I’m not even sure that it is a partridge Cochin, but it was my best guess. People tend to guess all of my Cochin pullets to be cockerels because they get redder combs early on, so I’m on the fence here. About 11wks old. Comb and wattles much smaller than the cochin roosters of the same age and looks more similar to my pullets, but it still looks suspicious. I’m just not entirely sure. I added the last two photos of bantam Cochin cockerels that hatched the same day (the one in question is standing between them in the photo) and the last one of my blue Cochin bantam pullet that also hatched same day. Thanks! IMG_3190.jpeg IMG_3187.jpeg IMG_2911.jpeg IMG_3181.jpeg IMG_3178.jpeg

Cockerel.
All the little ones combing up this early are males. I see a couple in there.
Yeah, I Purposely posted the picture of this one between the two definite Cochin cockerels that hatched the same day for reference. It just never got red like those two who have been fire red since like 4 weeks old. They’re both crowing as well and this one hasn’t *yet*. But I agree it does have some rooster traits and very likely could be! I’m just always on the fence with Cochins because the pullets get red really fast. I added photos of them at few weeks old for fun. IMG_1561.jpeg IMG_1530.jpeg

I’m not sure that is a full bred partridge Cochin- do you know if there’s any other genetics mixed in? I’ll attach a photo of my 12 wk old partridge Cochin pullet for comparison. My 12 wk old pullet has no comb/wattle development. But if you’ve got black maran or other genetics mixed it’s hard to say.
I currently have 2 partridge Cochin pullets and 2 white Cochin pullets and a 7 yr old buff Cochin. My beautiful lavender Cochins passed away last year at age 5 1/2. They were all super fluffy, short stature. Buff & lavender had larger comb development. My oldest Cochin was a buff who lived a ripe 11+ yrs.
