Well from what all I've read...chickens aren't suppose to be too bothered by the cold? My hens informed me that they are not reading the same book, infact they have never I don't think heard of it. They insist that I feed them "in the coop" and have refused to come out even for their fav treats. There is only a skiff of snow in their pen...if they think this is bad...whoa will they be surprised when the "real snow" comes!

Well anyways, they will have me trained by then, so all should be well for them.

And that is why I live in Arizona!!!!! Yikes! That is cold. I wouldn't go outside either! Poor girls... Want to winter them here with us? We will send you eggs... HeHe....

I talked to a BYC'r yesterday who told me she was lighting a fire in her fireplace because she was cold. It was 72 degrees at her house in Arizona. I was laughing at her!

My children told me yesterday that there was a freeze advisory in NY where they are. I'm glad I'm in TN!

Mine don't leave the coop all winter. They weren't that bothered by the cold except some of my bantams and just walked around acting normal. However they would not go out in that snow. They spent all winter staring out the doorway. Aside from my japanese bantams the chickens weren't shivering or stressed by the temperatures even when we got to -30F (-34C) but they preferred to stay inside. There isn't much to eat or much point in free ranging in the middle of winter here anyway.

Our furnace isn't working and we are already getting nights below freezing.

My house has been about 40F for 3days with a short 12hour break at 60F after someone got the furnace running for an afternoon.
