Daddys were mutts. I have pretty good guesses on mamas. Hubby took the pics. I think he did ok. Our guess on gender is on the last picture of each bird.

Chick L Buff Orpington mama. She will be slaughtered before maturity because she has a deformed vent and I believe trying to lay would kill her but since this is our first batch of chicks I didn't have the heart to cull at birth.

Oh and yes I see that I have a few with deformed feet. I believe it is a bad mix if genetics. I had a high % of live at lockdown not hatch. It was more for fun then anything. I have 1 new pure bred cockeral now and one of the dads if this batch.

I think chick G is a male going by comb.

Chick E has the worst of the foot deformities I think.

That's a lot of males. :th
C actually has the worst legs. He is showing signs of pain when I touch his upper legs now. He can't fully stand anymore. I will put him out if his pain this week. Have to dig a hole first. That may take a few days because if frozen ground.

L looks like a cockerel.

Honestly that will be easier. I will be hatching at least 1 more incubator full and only have room for 7 more hens and I kinda want to buy some more Brahma pullets this September but I can't if I fill my coop with hatched chicks.

you can straighten the toes by taping them you know? there is some tape that will be more easy to remove. i have straightened several that way altho i start real early
The severity of deformity didn't appear until they started growing. As babies the feet looked fine. They won't become part of my breeding program.

I tried to straighten toes on 2 SS pullets that curled only after they grew some. No dice as it was obviously very painful to bend them straighter at all.

Just my experience with late curlers.
