I have 2 buff Orpington chicks and 4 polish.

I'm trying to guess the sex of my BOs, just for fun. I've had chickens for a few years now but these are my first chicks, so I've no experience, but I read that females tend to have brown spots on their heads.....?

Anyway here's some pics. The first chick is slightly lighter in colour and slightly smaller over all. The second chick is darker and heavier.

Chick #1 pics....

At less than 2 weeks I wouldn’t hazard a guess. I’d wait until they’re at least 6 weeks old for sexing. Orpington’s are a slow maturing breed so it can take a while to know. I’ve not heard of buff down colour having correlation to gender but given buff chickens can vary in colour slightly, it’s probably not a reliable technique.

I also agree with the above. Its way too early to tell, especially for orps. They mature on the slower side. 6 -8 weeks is usually a better time range for a more accurate guess.
