We're new to turkeys - he seems like his coordination is lacking when it comes to walking. The turkey can walk, but it is not graceful or controlled.... is this normal? there's a video of him walking here:

could you let me know if he looks like an average 12 day old turkey walking? the guy at the feed store said he looks a little clumsy but healthy as he was making noise and generally pretty active.
any thoughts would be welcome!
Thanks!

Seems like a little wide of a stance to me, is it a broad breasted bronze? If so it might be normal - I have not raised any BB breeds but I know they have a wider gate do to their size. As long as he is moving around without falling over you should be fine.

i believe hes a BBB - the local hatchery gets them from Orlopp Turkey farm which produces BBB's i believe. He walks without falling, just doesn't walk very gracefully...

my 14 day old BBB aren't that big yet either of course we had some feed issues that finally got resolved but maybe this little "guy" is just growing to fast. mine were really clumsy until they were a days old, I had used bigger wood shaving in their brooder at first because I thought that would keep them from eating the chips but they would actually fall over on their backs and chirp and chirp until they could finally get themselves rolled over and on their feet again.Once I switched to the smaller loftier wood shavings they were fine

yeah, it must just be the growth rate these guys have. i was talking with my daughter about it and we concluded that the nerve growth must have a hard time keeping up with all the rest of the body growth - maybe that leads to the clumsiness. its amazing how fast this turkey grows though! i bet in another 2 weeks it'll be as big as the adult hens...
