I came out to the coop this morning to let the chicks out for some grass and my Blackie couldnt seem to walk. Upon closer examination, it looks like her leg is broken at, or right above the ankle. you can move it around where the other leg doesnt flex.

We think she got it stuck in the fencing or something. The chickens are in a coop and run overnight.

it is possible that its dislocated? there was a little blood- tiny bit really and it doesnt seem to hurt her. If she needs to move, she just hops on her other leg and tucks the broken one up. I read some other threads on here and splinted it with two shish-kabob sticks and some tape.

My worries are, what if its dislocated? Whats with the blood? and what if I wrapped it too tight?

also, she is isolated, but i think she is getting really lonely. should we put her in a coop within the coop?

here are some pics from this morning.

so here is an update.

she is back with the other girls since she seemed to be getting super lonley all by herself. she just hops around on one foot- even to roost. should I still be keeping her seperated? I dont want ther to injur it further. she kind of swipes her foot down like she wants to put it on the ground but can't. I am starting to think its her ankle that is broken. The others were pecking at the white tape so i removed the splint and bandages.

I just don't know if I am doing the right thing for her. I've read differing advice.

Anyone have an experience like this with one of theirs??

Thanks in advance!
