12 wk old Rhode Island Reds acting odd

My 12 wk old RI Red chicks are acting a little odd. Their 10x10 run is bare of grass, when I open the gate to step in, they rush the gate to get at the grass. Is this common, or should I do something with their feed? (they are currently on Purina Start & Grow Medicated) Or should I just toss some grass clippings in when I mow the yard?

I'd say let them out in your yard for some free range time, supervised of course.
They need greens and crave them. There are many weeds that they love as well as grass.
Also, they will have a chance to scratch in the soil under the grass and get some good little buggies to eat!
The feed you are giving them is fine.
