I just went to put my girls back into the coop after a morning of free ranging, and one of my EE's was squatting on the ground. They are 13 weeks old. Isn't that a little early?

Until about an hour ago, I would have thought that, but I butchered what I thought was a roo with Dark red comb and wattles at 12 weeks tomorrow, and found that SHE was gearing up to lay, when I found an ovary in place of testicles. This was a broiler runt, and I'd be considering keeping one or two of the pullets and hatching their eggs in the spring. So, don't be to quick to assume that they are too young. This one was a Cornish Rock Giant
I wish my EE's were squatting, they are 15 weeks, and they run away from the boys.

Oh my goodness!!!! They can trick you on sex, can't they?? Lol.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, in the event I'm totally wrong and have no idea what I'm talking about (totally possible;). But, it'd be awesome if she was gearing up. She's always been my largest hen....

How's her comb and wattles look? can you post a picture? also when she squats for you, does she have her wings out a bit? My pullets will duck their heads ,and lower themselves to run, without actually squatting, they are just scared, usually that is followed by running away at top speed.

Her comb is very red, but wattles not prominent. I'll go get a picture in a bit. She was squatting on the ground with her wings out a bit, yes. Is that what it's supposed to look like?

I think they think I'm the momma bird, so they aren't skiddish around me at all.

That's exactly the color of my pullets, but yes squatting with wings out is a good sign that means she is ready for a rooster to mate her

Oh and EE's don't always/usually have waddles come to think of it. I have her twin :)
