I've posted my chicks a few times as they've grown and wanted to do a gender check now that they're almost 14 weeks old (will be on Monday 10/15). They're from Meyer Hatchery via My Pet Chicken so I realize my RIR is likely a production red but I love her just the same.

a head shot of the BR, sorry it's blurry but they just won't sit still!

Tail Shot (note I had just tried to pick her up and ruffled her feathers so her wing feathers are not usually showing that much white, usually that's underneath).

Here is a another view:

So funny! I was just about to post essentially the exact same question. My RIRs are 13 weeks too. Small slightly red comb and just got a long curved tail feather which makes me nervous. Excited to hear thoughts on yours!

Mine are actually only 11weeks..You can see the long tail feathers best in the first picture..'

All are pullets, at 14 weeks a cockerel would be very obvious

Thanks! I just worry because I read on BYC about late-blooming cockerels and my Barred Rocks in particular is getting such a pink face and perky tail. She always has to be first at everything but otherwise doesn't seem very roo-like so I hope you're right!

fingers crossed! I'd say with the extra couple of weeks for yours she is probably a girl.. Still hoping for mine! It seems like both of mine are the same- so its hard to compare..:/

re-post in 2-3 weeks. the coloring on the barred rock looks like that of a cockerel instead and watch the lorp. another few weeks should tell yea for sure. hope you get all pullets though

Thanks! I ended up with one cockerel (a cochin) that I had to give away and I don't want to lose any more. The barred rock seems darker to me than pics I have seen of cockerels / roos of that breed so I'm hoping it'll be a she!
