Is it normal for mama hen to only adopt 1 of the chicks but not the others? They are a week old and her 2 babies are about 3 days old. She took to one of the chicks instantly and is mothering it along with her 2 babies. The other 2 she pecks at until they run away. They have somewhere to run safely to and have access to food and water, so I've left them in there. I've been checking on everyone frequently and they are usually in their safe area scratching and pecking the ground. Occasionally the one she took or one of her babies will be in there too. I slipped all 3 under her last night and she was fine with them. This morning I went out to check and she was still good with them and not pecking them. She let them jump on her and go under her without a fuss, but as the day progresses, she seems to want little to do the 2 and only has adopted the one. Do I leave them in there and hope that she will take them. I know someone on here told me that if you can safely leave them for a couple days sometimes that helps her to accept them. Any advice?

Could it be because the other 2 are different colors than her babies? She's taken in the black one and her babies are black and blue

She is most likely rejecting them as they are different than her own chicks. It's usually best to try and keep the colors the same unless she's actually hatching them out. Especially if she had several days to get used to the brood she had.

I ended up leaving only the one she took to and raised the other 2 in a brooder with a 3rd chick that I picked up. They are all 3 in the coop now with a divider between them, so as to introduce them to the flock :)
