Hi, I am trying to sell/re-home my Silkie female Partridge, Sparkles. She was bought from VJP Poultry, a Minnesota State - inspected Hatchery, show quality per VJP. They are NPIP and Pullorum tested. She is a good layer, doesn't take much to convince her to be broody, and sweet to human's. The only problem that I am running into the more I watch them the more I realized how much of a bully top hen she is considering the circumstances. However, I don't have a normal flock. As the chicks I have are almost as big as her now, but are only 6 weeks old. While the other Silkie, Scarlet has brain damage, and doesn't really stand up for herself. I didn't know how much she was actually being picked on till I added the chicks and saw a complete change in her spirit, and her social life has very much improved. When the chicks came she started to make friends with them, and the chicks love Scarlet. They all have been together since they were 4 weeks old. However, Sparkles I am starting to notice now having more chickens that she in general just seems unhappy and grumpy to everyone else. Sparkles, is keeping Scarlet and the chicks away from each other, and forcing the chicks away from her. Or she forces everyone (including Scarlet) from the area she is in. I think my flock is just to age different and the handicapped for her social needs, and she doesn't know what to do other then be a chicken. All (including Scarlet) run away from her, and it is only from Sparkles, and she is spending more time by herself. However, I think she would be fine with chickens that would actually stand up for themselves; such as normal Silkies, or docile normal chickens as Sparkles doesn't like to be bossed around. I paid 64 dollars for her and I have never been pecked even when she was broody in March, and honestly I would just like to get that back and for her to go to a good home; where she can be with normal (non-handicapped) chickens, her age. Or a trade for a Silkie Hen/Pullet (no less than 8 weeks or older then a year) who is looking for a home due to being bullied for being too low on the pecking order. Will also be willing to trade for a Silkie Splash Cockerel if super sweet, needing a home, and is 4 months or less old, so I have time to work with him.
