I have a 7 month Naked Neck that has been loosing feathers in a strip from her vent to her chest. The skin there is very smooth and soft, not red or irritated. She still lays an egg a day for 5 days, then takes a day off. She used to eat an all flock feed, but I changed that to chick grower either more protein and oyster shell on the side. She hasn’t had any behavior changes and she’s still at the top of the pecking order.
None of my other chickens have this problem.
I found one of her feather in the nest box, and it’s really weird. It looks like it has another little feather splitting off from it. I’ll post a picture, because I’ve never see anything like it (although I really haven’t had chickens that long). I checked her out, and quite a few of her feathers are like this, mostly her down feathers.
I have no idea if the weird feather is normal, and googling didn’t help me much, so sorry if that’s a stupid question.
