Rat or mice droppings.

I have noticed a decrease on egg production, just now I went in the coop and found droppings that appear to be from mice/rats, can anyone tell me if this is why the girls stopped laying. And how do I fix it? I thought of mouse traps but I don’t want to put the girls at risk.

It might be the problem, decreased production can be attributed to all sorts of things, but you can buy electronic mouse traps that can't hurt the chickens. I have a handful that I set in and around my coops/runs, baited with peanut butter, and they work great. I bought them from Victor Pest

If you are feeding the rodents due to not having a proper feeder then the first thing is to fix that. Rodents will stress birds and a stressed bird is a bird with a weak immune system. Traps might catch a few in the beginning but rats and mice learn quickly to avoid the traps. Deal with your feed security and a lot of problems never happen.
