It seems that all the hens are picking on one! What is going on here? Here are pictures I took a few minutes ago. Should I bring her in? Just spray with Blue ?
What should I do? I've never seen anything like that before. I only have the one coop, but I do still have my hospital set up from when my old blind girl was attacked. It's now in the basement.
Please give advise? It looks so painful.

What are you feeding?
Protien %
Have you checked for mites/lice?
Are they molting?
How much room in the coop do they have?

I'm thinking they need more protein in their diet, feathers = protein. You could give higher protein treats; meal worms, scrambled eggs, tuna, dry cat food moisten with water, etc .... I would spray with Blu Note & keep a close eye that the pecking doesn't get worst.

I thought I was giving plenty of protein, I buy the pellet and crumble that is recommended, I give daily treats, meal worms, wild bird seed/worm mix. I give them their eggs and even a little bacon grease. They get any leftovers from our meals that they like. Today I added vitamins to their water. And they get their cat food! They love their cat food almost as much as mealworms!
I'm at a loss. I just can't figure out why they pick on one? The biggest one of the bunch!?

They have been molting. Feathers are coming back now. I treated all of them with DE just in case? I haven't seen any mites or lice tho. Treated all the nest boxes and roost right before this cold spell we are having. I do the deep litter so I try to keep it as clean as possible. What else?

dea will not treat lice or mites look at the legs you would see them on their legs if they have vaseline will kill just those permethrin is what you need in it

Is your "bald butt" one a Buff Orpington by chance? Have you seen the others pick at her? Reason I am asking, is my favorite chicken, "Henny Penny", is a Buff Orpington, and her hinny looked very similar to yours (only much worse). The other chickens did not pick at her (I wondered, so I sat in the coop many times checking), and she did not pick at herself. So I knew something else was going on. Her vent was clean, and no pests of any kind were apparent.

She is now 3 years old but for almost a year, she had a very red "baboon butt", which seemed to start after a bout of diarrhea. Poor thing looked uncomfortable and very red, almost scalded, with no feathers.

I tried topical salves, various "diaper rash" ointments, but nothing helped until I finally took her to my vet. She prescribed a dose of antibiotics, which I was reluctant to give at first as I try to keep everything organic and natural on my farm.

Finally I broke down, gave Henny Penny the meds, and segregated her eggs. Within two weeks, she cleared up beautifully and regrew all her hindquarter feathers. She looks great now and seems very happy. Knock wood, no reoccurrence of "baboon butt"!

thank you, yes , she is a buff. And my favorite! I just sprayed her good with blue Kote. Do you know if that burns them? She acted like it was hurting her. I have not seen anyone pecking. That is why I was so puzzled.
