Hello, we have three very happy 15 month old chickens, and one of them hasn't laid an egg for a few weeks now. She is a Barnevelder who looks and behaves normally (she is active, doesn't appear to have any symptoms of distress, walks normally, and is eating and drinking normally). She went through a light molt a few weeks ago.
She laid through the winter (albeit not as much), but now that the days are longer she has completely stopped. She still goes to the nest box and spends time there. She's had a one or two soft eggs in the past, but has laid fine since. The other two chickens are still laying normally in the same nest box. They all eat the same layer feed (store bought 18% protein crumbles) and get plenty of water.
I've read a few posts on here, and what's most concerning are a couple of cases where a chicken stops laying but acts fine and then suddenly gets really sick and dies. I've felt her abdomen and can't feel any bound eggs, and she doesn't have any other symptoms of internal laying. I'm definitely starting to get worried.
Is there anything else I can do to figure out what's going on with her? Should I take her to a vet or wait for other symptoms?
Appreciate any help - we love our little Barney
