16% protein for chicks?

We have been feeding a 16% protein grower feed since we got our chicks. I was told at the feed store that it could be used as a starter feed as well. I didn't realize it was only 16% protein w until I got home and opened it.I see in a lot of postings that most people feed a chick starter that is at least 20% protein. My chicks seem to be growing fine. Is it ok to feed 16% to chicks? It's a 50 lb bag and I only have 6 chicks.

I believe 20% is grower, 16% is starter? Not too sure. The experts will know. I noticed on the bags that say chick grower, the amount was higher than the starter.

If I were you I would buy a bag of 20% feed and save the other bag for when they get a little bit older. They would probably grow fine on the other stuff you are feeding right now too, if you bought some 20% feed and mixed it half and half.

Different starter and grower feeds come in both/either. They'll be fine either way. Next bag, buy whichever you prefer. Feed a scrambled egg to them once in awhile and they are sure to get protein anyhow.

I tried eggs and they didn't want anything to do with it. I have 3 chicks that are almost 4 weeks old and 3 that are almost 3 weeks old. On mon I'll pick up a bag of 20% and mix them. I know that layer feed we plan on using will be 16 or 18%.

I would go get them a small bag of chick starter. That is really what they should be on at that young of an age. You can switch them to the grower that you have at 8 to 10 weeks of age.
Chick feed is 18 to 22% protein, grower/finisher is usually 15-16% and layer is 16%.
